Russia Moves to Deepen Economic Cooperation with Zimbabwe

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has received credentials from Ambassador-Designate Sergei Berdnikov of the Russian Federation during a ceremony held at State House in Harare, signalling a renewed drive to strengthen bilateral relations and expand economic cooperation between the two nations.

Speaking after presenting his credentials, Ambassador Berdnikov said Moscow and Harare are committed to building on their long-standing political ties while accelerating collaboration in key economic sectors that can drive growth and development in both countries.

He identified mining, energy, electrification, agriculture and agricultural mechanisation as priority areas with significant potential for investment and partnership, noting that these sectors offer opportunities to enhance productivity, industrialisation and economic transformation.

The Ambassador also underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation in science, technology and innovation, saying deeper engagement in these strategic fields will help advance shared development objectives and unlock new opportunities for sustainable growth.

Ambassador Berdnikov said the growing engagement between Zimbabwe and Russia reflects a common vision to translate strong diplomatic relations into tangible economic outcomes, with both countries seeking to expand practical cooperation for the mutual benefit of their peoples.

The presentation of credentials marks another step in the deepening partnership between Harare and Moscow, as the two nations continue exploring new avenues for trade, investment and technical collaboration.
