The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has begun repair work at the Hwange Power Station following a technical fault that occurred over the weekend.

This malfunction had led to extended periods of load shedding in various areas across the country.

Minister of Energy and Power Development, Honourable July Moyo, provided an update on the situation, stating that repair work on the Stage 1 and 2 units at Hwange is currently underway. He expressed optimism that the first affected unit is expected to be back in service by the end of today.

Minister Moyo added that the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) is working diligently to fully restore generation capacity and ensure the stability of the power supply by the end of this week.

The technical fault at Hwange Power Station has impacted electricity generation, with current output at 670 Megawatts (MW). This is a considerable drop compared to the average of 1,000 MW the plant had been generating in previous weeks.

ZETDC and ZPC are focused on completing the repairs swiftly to minimize further disruptions and return the power supply to normal for all affected customers. Updates on the progress of the restoration efforts are expected to be provided as the week progresses.
