Public Warned Against Fake Government Grants Scam

Written by on August 15, 2024

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has issued a warning to the public about a fraudulent scheme involving fake government grants.

Scammers have created a fake Facebook page, posing as government officials, and are targeting small and medium entrepreneurs with promises of grant funding.

The fraudulent page, which claims to be in partnership with reputable organizations such as the African Development Bank and the United Nations Development Organisation (UNIDO), invites applicants to submit their financial details after being “accepted” for grants. Victims are then robbed of their money and ignored.

To avoid falling prey to this scam, the public is advised to exercise caution when encountering social media posts offering funds or grants. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce emphasizes the importance of diligence and professionalism, urging individuals to verify information through official channels.

For authentic updates and information, the public is encouraged to follow the Ministry’s verified social media accounts: @Min_of_IC on Twitter and Min Industry and Commerce Zimbabwe on Facebook.
