President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to take decisive action in addressing road safety issues, following a disturbing surge in road fatalities. A total of 4,069 deaths were recorded in 2024, reflecting a staggering 93% increase from 2,104 in 2023.

At the ZRP Mkushi Police Academy’s Presidential Pass-out Parade, the President urged the ZRP to promptly implement the Electronic Traffic Management System to help mitigate the rising number of road accidents.

He also emphasized the need for citizens to exercise discipline while driving, adhere to traffic laws, and cooperate with traffic police to combat the alarming trend of fatal accidents.

The introduction of the Electronic Traffic Management System is expected to play a crucial role in improving road safety and reducing the number of accidents in the country.
