President Mnangagwa Extends General Sibanda’s Term

President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has extended the term of the Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Phillip Valerio Sibanda, with immediate effect.
According to a General Notice published in the Government Gazette by the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr. Misheck Rushwaya, the extension is in line with proviso (i) to the Defence (Regular Force) (Officers) Regulations, 1988, as outlined in Statutory Instrument 152 of 1988. The extension will run from December 24, 2024, to November 23, 2025.
General Phillip Valerio Sibanda has been serving as the Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces since 2017, following his appointment to the role.
