Zimbabweans join the Nkomo family in commemorating the 12th anniversary of the passing of the late former Vice President, Dr. John Landa Nkomo, who passed away on January 17, 2013. Dr. Nkomo left behind a legacy of patriotism, peace, and unity.
In a statement from the Office of the President and the Cabinet, Dr. Nkomo is remembered as a devoted revolutionary and nation builder whose contributions spanned over five decades. He played a pivotal role in Zimbabwe’s struggle for independence and served in various capacities, including Deputy Minister of Industry and Energy, Minister of Labour, and Speaker of Parliament. On the international stage, he served as President of the International Labour Conference in 1993 and chaired the Governing Body of the International Labour Organisation in 1994.
Dr. Nkomo was a staunch advocate for peace, famously stating, “Peace begins with me. Peace begins with you. Peace begins with all of us.” As Zimbabwe marks his passing, the nation is reminded of the importance of safeguarding its stable democracy and promoting unity.
The Second Republic has pledged to continue Dr. Nkomo’s legacy by delivering on national policies, programmes, and projects, ensuring no one and no place is left behind.
