In an effort to combat the growing issue of drug abuse among youths, the Zimbabwe Republic Police appeared on a radio interview at Breeze FM in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, today. The police officers emphasized the dangers of drug abuse, particularly the commonly abused “mutoriro” or crystal meth.
According to the police, youths are the primary victims of drug abuse. Many of them resort to stealing from their parents to purchase substances that will get them intoxicated. This not only harms their health but also leads to social problems.
The police warned that drug abuse, especially of crystal meth, has severe side effects. These include significant weight loss, prolonged sleep deprivation and increased aggression.
Police officer Sergeant Reason Ncube from the Department of Community Relations and Liaising Office urged the public to reject drug abuse. He emphasized that these substances can lead to death. Sergeant Ncube also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities related to drug abuse.
In addition to addressing drug abuse, Sergeant Ncube reminded the public that fire crackers are prohibited due to their harmful nature. Those wishing to use fireworks must obtain consent from the police station. Furthermore, he cautioned against noise pollution, advising individuals to refrain from making excessive noise that might disturb their neighbors. Anyone planning to host a party should seek permission from the police.
“By working together, the police and the public can help combat drug abuse and create a safer, healthier community in Victoria Falls”, Sergeant Ncube said.
