Police urge men to seek help, not suicide

Written by on December 5, 2024

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Bulawayo has expressed concern over the rising number of male suicides in the city.

The ZRP’s appeal comes as the world observes the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence which aims to raise awareness about the impact of violence on individuals and communities.

Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the Deputy Provincial Spokesperson, urged men to seek help instead of resorting to suicide. She highlighted that many male suicides are linked to issues such as infidelity and minor disagreements.

Msebele cited a recent case where a man committed suicide by hanging himself after being denied permission to keep a pet on his verandah.

The police have recorded 21 suicide cases this year, with the majority of victims being men. Many of these cases are linked to relationship issues and financial problems.
