The Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has demanded a retraction from NewsDay following the publication of an article on published yesterday, titled “Mnangagwa turns to parallel structures.”

The OPC asserts that the story falsely implies President Emmerson Mnangagwa is seeking to extend his tenure beyond the constitutional term limit.

In a statement, the OPC expressed deep concern, labeling the article as defamatory and slanderous. It further criticized NewsDay for alleging disharmony and unrest within the ruling Zanu PF party and security structures, calling such claims a serious offense that undermines national unity and tarnishes the President’s reputation.

The OPC emphasized that President Mnangagwa has repeatedly affirmed his commitment to serving within the limits of the National Constitution. It described the article as an attempt to discredit the Head of State and destabilize the nation’s cohesion and stability.

The OPC has given NewsDay a seven-day deadline to retract the article, warning that failure to comply will result in legal action.
