Zimbabwean medical specialist Dr Hove has pledged that the breakthroughs and partnerships forged at the recently held SIGN Conference will translate into tangible healthcare improvements for every Zimbabwean regardless of whether they rely on public or private hospitals.
Speaking after the high-level gathering in Victoria Falls, Dr Hove, a senior consultant radiologist and one of the event’s organisers, said the ultimate goal of hosting global neuroscience experts is to strengthen local capacity and improve patient outcomes nationwide.
“We are gathering skills from across the world and adapting them to our environment,” he said. “Medicine is now a global village, and Zimbabwe is building strong links with international experts so we can work together to better serve our patients.”
Dr Hove emphasized that Zimbabwe will not simply adopt foreign models, but will carefully select and integrate the most relevant training programmes and technologies to suit local conditions.
A central theme of Dr Hove’s remarks was equality in healthcare delivery. He made it clear that the benefits of the conference will extend beyond elite institutions to reach ordinary citizens across the country.
“Science has no barrier, and doctors do not see patients as private or public,” he said. “We are guided by our duty to save lives. What we are building will benefit all Zimbabweans.”
He stressed that the adoption of advanced technologies including AI-driven diagnostics, telemedicine platforms, and sophisticated surgical navigation tools will enhance the country’s ability to treat complex brain and spinal conditions across both public and private health systems.
The approach aligns with the government’s broader commitment to inclusive development, ensuring that no community is left behind.
“We are not going to leave anyone behind,” Dr Hove said. “From Harare to Bulawayo, and even in remote areas like Gokwe and Binga, our mission is to make sure every Zimbabwean has access to improved healthcare.”
