Zimbabwe’s microfinance institutions have been urged to strengthen their cybersecurity frameworks to protect client data and ensure digital safety.
Speaking at the 3rd Microfinance Technology Summit in Harare, ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera called on MFIs to comply with national cybersecurity standards, appoint Data Protection Officers, and train staff regularly.
The summit, hosted by ZAMFI in partnership with Rwanda’s AMIR, gathered regional stakeholders to discuss the future of digital finance.
Reserve Bank Deputy Governor Dr. Johnstone Chipika added that fintech policies should also be available in local languages to promote inclusion among the elderly.
Mavetera concluded by encouraging collaboration for a more secure digital financial space.
