Hwange Man Kills Pedestrian in Road Accident

A 32-year-old Hwange man has been fined and banned from driving after fatally hitting a pedestrian with his car late last year.

The court heard that the incident occurred on December 11, 2024, when Emmanuel Mudeya was driving alone at approximately 65 km/h, slightly over the 60 km/h limit, on a local road. According to court findings, a pedestrian was attempting to cross when Mudeya struck them, killing them instantly.

The Hwange Magistrates’ Court heard that Mudeya failed to exercise due caution, driving at an excessive speed for the conditions and not reacting in time to avoid the collision. His actions were deemed negligent.

In sentencing, the court ordered Mudeya to pay a fine of $450, with an alternative of six months in prison if he fails to do so. He has also been barred from driving any class of vehicle for the next two years.

Authorities say the incident is a tragic reminder of the need for drivers to observe speed limits and remain alert at all times, especially in areas where pedestrians are likely to cross.
