The Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) has issued a Class 2 recall for a batch of YAZ Plus contraceptives due to a packaging error that could affect their effectiveness.
MCAZ Director General Mr. Richard T. Rukwata stated that the affected batch (Registration Number 2022/21.2.1/6235, Batch WEW961J, manufactured by Bayer (Pty) Ltd, South Africa) contains 24 light orange hormone-free tablets and 4 hormone tablets instead of the correct 24 pink hormone tablets and 4 light orange hormone-free tablets.
All medical institutions must quarantine affected units and cooperate with Bayer and local distributors. Consumers should check for the batch number, discontinue use, return affected products to pharmacists, and consult medical professionals.
MCAZ is responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of medicines, allied substances, and medical devices.
