Manchester United part ways with Ten Hag

Manchester United have confirmed the departure of Erik ten Hag as the club’s manager. Ten Hag’s exit follows a disappointing start to the season.
Manchester United currently sit 14th in the Premier League, having lost four of their nine league games. Across all competitions, they have won four of 14 matches. Erik ten Hag’s departure follows yesterday’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham.
Despite his contract extension to July 2026, Manchester United informed Erik ten Hag of his departure on Monday. Ten Hag joined the club in April 2022 and achieved notable successes during his tenure, including winning the 2023 Carabao Cup and the FA Cup last season.
Last season, he finished eighth with 60 points, suffering 14 defeats in 38 games. Additionally, his Champions League campaign ended in the group stages. Given this mixed performance, his return to the team this season was surprising to some.
Club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy is reportedly set to take over as interim coach, replacing Erik ten Hag. Several top managers are linked to the permanent position, including Gareth Southgate, Thomas Frank, Xavi, and Julian Nagelsmann.
Notably, Thomas Tuchel, previously considered a contender, will not be in the running, having accepted the England national team job.
