Lupane Fears Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreak in Children
Written by Staff Reporter on March 13, 2025
Lupane Rural Health Centre has raised concerns over a possible outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, warning that it appears to be affecting children under the age of ten.
Speaking during an interview, Dr. Sanele Moyo from Lupane Rural Health Centre said the disease is causing swelling of the mouth and sores on children’s feet.
Since the beginning of 2025, the health centre has recorded 23 cases. While the Matabeleland region is known for frequent foot-and-mouth outbreaks in livestock, there have been no known reports of the disease affecting children.
