Written by on October 23, 2024

A harrowing poaching incident recently occurred in Hwange National Park, where three lion carcasses were discovered with their heads and legs gruesomely severed.

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZIMPARKS) reports that initial investigations suggest the use of a heavy-caliber rifle, as indicated by bullet holes in the carcasses. In response, the ZIMPARKS has initiated a thorough investigation, deploying a K9 unit to the scene to aid in evidence collection and to track down the perpetrators.

This incident underscores the ongoing threat of poaching to Zimbabwe’s wildlife, raising urgent concerns about the conservation of species in Hwange National Park. Authorities are under increasing pressure to enhance protective measures against such heinous acts.
