Gender and Media Connect (GMC) has launched a pioneering safety initiative aimed at protecting and empowering female journalists across Southern Africa.
Speaking at the launch in Johannesburg, South Africa, GMC Zimbabwe National Director Patience Zirima said the meeting was significant in uniting women and exploring ways to strengthen support systems. She noted that the gathering aimed to develop concrete mechanisms and a robust framework to enhance support for female journalists in the region.
The GMC initiative marks a critical step towards building a safer, more equitable media landscape for women—ensuring their voices are heard and their stories told with strength and resilience.
Founded in 2000, Gender and Media Connect is committed to promoting gender equality in the media and advancing the safety and representation of women journalists across Southern Africa.
