The government has pledged to support those impacted by the recent fire at Mbare Musika, a major trading hub.
Speaking at the 35th Cabinet Briefing, Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Dr Jenfan Muswere announced that the ‘Building Back Better’ program will provide financial and other forms of aid to affected traders as they work to rebuild their businesses.
A survey revealed that 4,695 traders lost valuable stock and funds in the blaze, impacting over 23,000 people in total.
The planned reconstruction of Mbare Musika, expected to take around seven months, will include a three-story structure with designated zones for different business types. Once completed, the new facility is anticipated to host up to 10,000 traders.
