Govt Takes Steps to Regulate Artificial Intelligence

The government is formulating a national Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy to regulate the use of emerging technologies, with a strong focus on transparency, data privacy, and workforce upskilling.
Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. Tatenda Mavetera, noted that the government has already enacted the Cyber and Data Protection Act and is working on an ICT strategy that outlines infrastructure needs to safeguard the country’s digital space.
She underscored the importance of creating policies that are tailored to Zimbabwe’s values and development priorities.
Through the development of a national AI policy, Zimbabwe is taking proactive steps to embrace technological advancements while ensuring responsible use. The policy framework will aim to promote innovation, strengthen digital infrastructure, and build local human capital in the AI space.
