A 39-year-old woman from Eswatini, Precious Luphoko, has been convicted by the Gwanda Magistrates’ Court for unlawfully entering and remaining in Zimbabwe without valid documentation.
Luphoko was smuggled into the country through the Beitbridge border post by her boyfriend, believed to be a truck driver, who later abandoned her at the Collen Bawn bus terminus.
She later sought refuge at a good Samaritan’s home, where she was referred to the police for assistance, leading to her arrest.
The court ordered her to pay a fine of US$150, or face one month in prison if she defaults. She was also ordered to be deported to Eswatini.
