Government Dissolves NSSA Board to Align with New Strategic Vision

The government has dissolved the board of the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) with immediate effect to align the pension fund with a newly adopted strategic direction, a source has confirmed.
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Edgar Moyo has since appointed a new board, although details of its composition were not immediately released.
Sources say all outgoing board members received their termination letters on Tuesday morning.
NSSA chairperson Dr Emmanuel Fundira, appointed in May 2023, confirmed the board’s dismissal but did not provide further comment. A termination letter seen by this publication shows that Minister Moyo thanked the outgoing board for stabilising NSSA during the implementation of forensic audit recommendations, stating the decision aims to lay the foundation for a refreshed strategic thrust.
Dr Fundira’s term was originally set to run until May 2027.
Since 2015, the authority has seen a high turnover in key executive positions, which many believe has disrupted the organisation’s operational continuity and effectiveness.
