Equipping Journalists for the Digital Age: Africa Journalism Media Summit

The Africa Journalism Media Summit, from Wednesday brought together educators, media professionals, and leaders to discuss how journalism education can adapt to the challenges of the digital era.
The summit, themed Reinventing Local Journalism in the Age of Disruption, focused on updating curricula to reflect the rapid technological changes in newsrooms and fostering stronger collaboration between academia and the media industry to better equip journalists for the future.
Professor Mphathisi Ndlovu, from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), emphasized the need for journalism curricula to align with digital transformations in newsrooms.
He stressed the importance of preparing students for the evolving media landscape.
Meanwhile, Mlondolozi Ndlovu, a seasoned journalist and lecturer highlighted the critical need for collaboration between educators and practitioners to produce journalists skilled in both traditional and digital media.
The summit also tackled rebuilding public trust in journalism, expanding outreach to diverse communities, and developing sustainable business models for local news.
