Dr Murwira signs book of condolences

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Professor Dr. Amon Murwira today signed a book of condolences at the United States of America (USA) Embassy Zimbabwe offices, following the passing of former United States President Jimmy Carter on Sunday.
The signing of the virtual condolence book is part of the Carter Center’s memorial gift in honoring the memory of President Carter.
Carter died at the age of 100 and had been in home hospice care since February 2023 after a series of short hospital stays. He served a single term from 1977 to 1981 losing re-election bid to Ronald Reagan .
President Carter played a significant role in promoting Zimbabwe independence and USA was among the first to establish an embassy and to promote diplomatic relations with the country.
Minister Dr Murwira stated that Zimbabwe honors former President Carter’s contributions and regards his death as a major loss not only to the people of the United States but to the people of Zimbabwe as well.
