Deputy Minister of Justice Opens ZEC Multi-Stakeholder Post-Election Review Conference

The Deputy Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Nobert Mazungunye, officially opened the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Multi-Stakeholder Post-Election Review Conference in Nyanga yesterday.

The event focused on reviewing the 2024 harmonized elections and fostering discussions on improving future electoral processes.

In his address, Deputy Minister Mazungunye emphasized the importance of election observation in upholding democratic principles. He highlighted the role of transparent and accountable elections in maintaining public trust in Zimbabwe’s democratic institutions. The minister noted that the conference serves as a key platform for reflecting on the electoral process and ensuring that lessons learned can contribute to the enhancement of future elections.

ZEC Chairperson, Justice Priscilla Chigumba, also spoke at the event, reinforcing the purpose of the conference as a moment for stakeholders to critically assess the 2023 elections. She underscored the importance of identifying areas where improvements can be made to strengthen the credibility and inclusiveness of Zimbabwe’s elections.

The ZEC Multi-Stakeholder Post-Election Review Conference brought together a broad spectrum of participants, including political parties that took part in the 2023 elections, civil society organizations, diplomats, and representatives from both the Zimbabwe Gender Commission and the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission.

The conference is expected to produce actionable insights and recommendations aimed at refining electoral practices in Zimbabwe moving forward.
