The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign is currently underway in Harare, with a strong focus on raising awareness and mobilizing action to address this pressing issue in different communities in the country.
Africa Unity Square is hosting various events and exhibitions led by organizations such as the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ).
Recent cases highlighted by the NPAZ underscore the urgent need for societal change. These include convictions for domestic violence, assault, and child abuse, demonstrating the devastating impact of gender-based violence on individuals and families.
In Bulawayo, a man was recently sentenced to jail for attempted murder, while another was fined for assaulting his wife. A woman was also arrested for abusing her stepchildren.
The campaign serves as a crucial reminder of the ongoing crisis of gender-based violence, with statistics indicating that every 10 minutes, a woman is killed or assaulted by a partner or family member.
