(Rtd) Col Tshinga Dube died last week on Thursday, at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo after suffering from Kidney failure.

(Rtd) Col Tshinga Dube whose war name was Cde Embassy was born on 3 July 1941 at Fort Usher in Matobo District, Matabeleland South Province. Outraged by colonial injustices, young Dube joined politics in the 1960s. He had experienced the cruelty of the colonial regime in 1953 when his family was displaced from their ancestral land.

To demonstrate his political allegiance, young Dube became a member of the Southern Rhodesian African National Congress and began to attend meetings spearheaded by the National Democratic party at Stanley Square in Makokoba during regular school calendar breaks.

While in Zambia, Tshinga Dube became actively involved in the structures of the Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU), ultimately taking on the role of secretary for Luwanshe District. This involvement was significant, as ZAPU was a key political party in the struggle for Zimbabwe’s Independence, known for its efforts to mobilize support and coordinate guerrilla warfare against colonial rule.

In 1980, Cde Dube was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army, commissioned as a Colonel and was assigned to Head the Zimbabwe Signals Corps until he retired in 1989.
