2025 budget allocation -villagers appeal for relocation fee

Government has been urged to allocate funds in the 2025 national budget to support families which will be relocated due to the construction of the Lake Gwayi Shangani project. According to governments relocation plan , seven hundred and twenty six households in Lubimbi under Chief Kavula will be relocated to Kanono in Lupane under Chief Mabhikwa.

Speaking at the budget consultation meeting in Jostholo , Lupane , Lubimbi villager Crispen Munkuli , emphasized that locals who will be relocated as a result of the construction of the lake deserve compensation.

The lake will not only provide a permanent solution to Bulawayo’s water shortages but will also generate 10MW of electricity for the national grid. Potential benefits for the local communities, include irrigation projects, fisheries, and tourism opportunities.
