The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has concluded a feasibility study with Chinese company TransTech, a subsidiary of China Railway International Group.
The study explores a potential $533 million investment for modernizing rail systems which will see the provision of locomotives and other rail equipment, construction of a new Beitbridge-Harare railway line as well as increased transportation of minerals.
With discussions ongoing, NRZ anticipates improved freight movement, aiming to counter dwindling operations due to funding challenges and outdated infrastructure.
The Chinese company has also carried out extensive examination of NRZ infrastructure, including rail lines and marshal yards, workshops and even met customers.
