Zimbabwe has officially opened its national pavilion at the prestigious Venice Biennale in Venice, reinforcing the country’s growing presence on the global contemporary arts stage.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Nicholas Moyo said Zimbabwe’s continued participation at the international showcase reflects Government’s commitment to promoting culture as a key pillar of national identity, heritage, and soft power diplomacy.

Mr Moyo noted that the country’s presence at the Biennale demonstrates Zimbabwe’s determination to position its creative sector as an important driver of cultural exchange and international engagement.

Meanwhile, Maphios Cheda, Chairperson of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe Board, emphasised the importance of strengthening public-private partnerships to transform the arts sector into a sustainable economic industry capable of creating opportunities for local creatives.

Justice Cheda also called for broader participation and investment in the creative economy, saying the arts sector has significant potential to contribute to Zimbabwe’s economic growth and global cultural visibility.

The Zimbabwe Pavilion, themed Second Nature, presents compelling Zimbabwean narratives through contemporary installations and artistic expression, exploring themes of identity, environment, memory, and human experience.

Zimbabwe’s participation at the Venice Biennale continues to advance the country’s cultural diplomacy agenda while creating valuable international exposure for local artists, curators, and the broader creative industry.
