Chief Justice Luke Malaba has reiterated the judiciary’s dedication to ensuring access to justice for all, particularly for vulnerable groups, and highlighted the ongoing decentralization of Magistrates’ Courts into townships.
Speaking at the official opening of the 2025 legal year on Monday, Chief Justice Malaba emphasized that access to justice is fundamental to an effective judicial system, enabling citizens to seek remedies and assert their rights.
As part of the decentralization initiative, the Judicial Service Commission has adopted a policy to establish Magistrates’ Courts in townships. The Bulawayo City Council has been commended for allocating stands in Emganwini and Cowdray Park for new court facilities.
The ceremony marked the start of a judicial calendar year focused on fostering public confidence through multi-stakeholder engagement.
