Chief Justice Calls for Legal Training for Traditional Leaders
Written by Staff Reporter on January 21, 2025
Chief Justice Luke Malaba has directed the Judicial Service Commission to provide legal training for traditional leaders to enhance their capacity in administering justice within their communities.
The initiative seeks to ensure that traditional leaders, who handle judicial matters under customary law, are knowledgeable about legal processes and principles. This will enable them to resolve disputes fairly, impartially, and respectfully, fostering dignity among litigants.
In a recent announcement, Chief Justice Malaba emphasized that empowering traditional leaders with legal and ethical knowledge is critical to building a just and equitable society. Sections 162 and 163 of the Constitution recognize customary courts and their presiding officers as part of Zimbabwe’s judiciary.
