Charumbira Opens Pan-African Parliament Session, Calls for Justice-Focused Policies

Written by on February 25, 2025

Pan-African Parliament President, H.E. Chief Fortune Charumbira, officially opened the session of the 6th Parliament’s Permanent Committees, emphasizing the need for justice-driven policies to address historical and structural inequalities across Africa.

Charumbira highlighted that this year’s session aligns with the African Union’s 2025 theme: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations.” He described the theme as both a reminder of past injustices—such as slavery, colonialism, and exploitation—and a call to action for committees to work towards Africa’s progress.

He stressed that the Pan-African Parliament has a duty to advocate for justice for Africans and their descendants globally. Acknowledging the impact of historical wrongs, he urged the world to recognize the value of African lives, culture, and contributions to global development.
