Girls in STEM Trust commended for promoting digital skills among learners, youths

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies, Postal and Courier Services has applauded the Girls in STEM Trust for the role they have played in promoting digital skills among students and youths in the country following the official launch of World Robot Olympiad Zimbabwe 2025 which was held at Girls College yesterday.

The launch event, themed “The future of robots,” aimed to showcase Zimbabwe’s growing talent in robotics, artificial intelligence and STEM innovation.

Speaking during the event, Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technologies, Postal and Courier Services, Dingumuzi Phuthi praised the World Robot Olympiad initiative, emphasizing its crucial role in enhancing digital literacy among learners and youth which is pivotal in driving nation’s development while also strengthening the digital landscape.

Addressing attendees in the event, Executive director of Girls in STEM Trust and National Coordinator of the World Robot Olympiad Zimbabwe, Mrs Victoria Nxumalo emphasized that through the robot Olympiad programme, they are preparing students to become active contributors to the development of the nation while aiming to equip them with skills to develop innovative solutions.

Acting Provincial Education Director for Bulawayo, Mr Lawrence Mkwala, added that the Robot Olympiad would ensure students are equipped with both academic knowledge and practical, innovative skills essential for the 21st century.

The World Robot Olympiad Zimbabwe 2025 is expected to attract participants from across the country, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and innovation in the technological sector.
