Three brothers from Bulawayo, Francis, Givemore, and James Gwaringa, were arrested at a roadblock on the outskirts of Gweru after being found in possession of stolen equipment belonging to the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ).
In a recent statement, NRZ reported that police officers stopped the car in which the brothers were traveling and conducted a search, uncovering seven wagon leaf springs valued at US$2,310, along with a gas tank and a cutting torch.
The NRZ has issued a warning to the public, stating that vandalism and theft of its infrastructure are serious offenses that can lead to a prison term of up to 10 years. The arrest of the Gwaringa brothers serves as a reminder of the consequences associated with such actions.
The theft and vandalism of NRZ equipment have significantly hindered the parastatal’s efforts to modernize its operations and improve service delivery.
