The Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) has officially implemented the Livestock Development Levy in accordance with Statutory Instrument 129 of 2017.
This levy aims to ensure that all individuals and businesses involved in the production of chicks, raw milk procurement, and beef cattle slaughtering contribute to the sustainable growth of the livestock sector.
The government recognizes the critical role of the livestock sector in Zimbabwe’s economy, providing food security, generating employment, and contributing significantly to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
By introducing this levy, the government aims to enhance support for initiatives that will improve livestock productivity, strengthen animal health, and increase the overall resilience of the sector.
The AMA emphasized that the funds generated from the levy will be utilized to support vital programs that benefit all stakeholders within the livestock industry.
