Botswana’s President Announces Plan to Legalize Undocumented Zimbabweans

Botswana’s newly elected president, Duma Boko, has unveiled plans to offer temporary work and residence permits to undocumented Zimbabweans, marking a major policy shift that recognizes the essential roles these migrants play in Botswana’s economy.
Boko stressed that Zimbabweans contribute valuable skills and labor to Botswana and that the nation can benefit from their presence.
Boko also underscored that granting legal status to undocumented Zimbabweans will foster economic growth, promote peace, and help reduce crime.
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is currently in Botswana to attend President Boko’s inauguration. He left today, accompanied by Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Hon. Mangaliso Ndlovu.
