Botswana will inaugurate Duma Gideon Boko as its 6th president on Friday, 8 November 2024, at the National Stadium in Gaborone.
To facilitate public participation, Boko has declared Friday a public holiday, with Thursday, 7 November, set as a half-day for those traveling to attend.
The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) party leader won the 30 October elections, securing 21 seats in parliament.
His victory ends the Botswana Democratic Party’s continuous rule since the country’s independence in 1966. Boko was sworn in on the 2nd of November alongside Vice President-designate Ndaba Gaolathe, following former President Eric Masisi’s formal departure from office.
