African Women’s Leadership Key to Peace and Development – UN Deputy Secretary-General

The participation of African women in leadership is essential for achieving lasting peace, protecting human rights, and driving sustainable development across the continent, according to the United Nations (UN) Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed.
Speaking at the African Union (AU) Mission, Mohammed highlighted the critical role women play in fostering stability and progress, stressing that their leadership is not just beneficial but necessary for Africa’s future.
She underscored the importance of empowering African women leaders, stating that their involvement is key to building a more equitable and prosperous continent.
The AU Mission, established in 2002, is a regional body comprising 55 member states dedicated to promoting peace, security, and development while advancing African unity and self-determination.
