The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat is hosting the inaugural Non-Tariff Barriers (NTB) Coordination Meeting in Accra, Ghana, to enhance collaboration with Regional Economic Communities (RECs) in addressing NTBs across Africa.

Delegations from various countries are participating, sharing updates on NTB-related activities, and highlighting key achievements in efforts to mitigate these barriers. Discussions focus on the crucial role of National Monitoring Committees (NMCs) and National Focal Points (NFPs) in NTB resolution.

The meeting emphasizes that strengthening coordination among member states and RECs is key to unlocking AfCFTA’s full potential. By tackling NTBs collaboratively, participants aim to foster trade, deepen economic integration, and create a more unified African market.

Launched in 2021, AfCFTA seeks to establish a single continental market for goods and services. Addressing NTBs is critical to maximizing trade agreements like AfCFTA, ultimately driving economic growth and development across the continent.
