An accounting assistant at the Hwange Magistrates’ Court, Tafadzwa Chakavanda (31), has been jailed for theft of trust property.
Chakavanda was convicted and sentenced to 24 months in prison for failing to deposit $339 USD, instead using the money for personal gain. The incident occurred on June 7, 2024, when Chakavanda was tasked with depositing both $339 USD and $225 ZWL into the bank, but only deposited the latter.
The offense came to light on July 2 when the provincial accountant was reconciling bank receipts, leading to Chakavanda’s arrest. The court suspended 10 months of the 24-month sentence, with an additional 2 months suspended on the condition of good behavior.
