Financial company Old Mutual Limited has moved its secondary share trading to the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange (VFEX). The move restarts public share trading for the company in Zimbabwe after trading was suspended on the main local exchange in 2020.
Government officials and business leaders attended the ceremony in Victoria Falls to mark the launch as Old Mutual is trading on the VFEX in U.S. dollars.
Addressing attendees, Finance Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube described the listing as a key moment for local financial markets, stating that long-term economic growth requires strong capital markets alongside traditional bank loans.
” _In order to sustain growth, we must continue to build deeper and more diversified capital markets that provide businesses with access to long-term growth capital,”_ Ncube said. He also invited private companies to co-invest with the government on large-scale infrastructure projects.
Old Mutual Africa Region CEO Clement Chinaka explained that moving to the VFEX reflects the company’s trust in the growing exchange, noting that the decision ” _reflects our confidence in the encouraging evolution of the VFEX as an increasingly important platform for mobilizing investment_ ” and building long-term value.
He further noted that the company has operated in Africa for over 180 years and remains focused on supporting local economies.
The listing allows both local and foreign investors to trade Old Mutual shares again, supporting efforts to build Victoria Falls into a regional financial center.
