FIFA Ordered to Disclose Information in Expanding 2026 World Cup Ticket Investigation

Global football governing body, FIFA, has been ordered to provide detailed information to authorities in the states of New York and New Jersey as investigations intensify into controversial ticket pricing and seating arrangements for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The probe follows mounting complaints from football fans over soaring ticket costs and alleged seating discrepancies at MetLife Stadium, one of the premier venues set to host matches during the global football spectacle.
Authorities are scrutinising FIFA’s use of dynamic pricing — a system that adjusts ticket costs according to demand — amid allegations that the model significantly inflated prices beyond levels seen at previous World Cup tournaments, placing tickets beyond the reach of many supporters.
Further concerns have emerged from fans who claim they purchased premium seating packages only to later be reassigned to less favourable sections, triggering accusations of poor transparency and unfair ticket allocation practices.
Leading the investigation are Letitia James and Jennifer Davenport, who are demanding comprehensive records from FIFA regarding ticket pricing structures, seat allocation systems and the classification of ticket categories.
Investigators are also examining the introduction of a controversial late-stage “Front Category” ticket option, which some consumers argue created confusion and may have contributed to disputes over seating expectations.
The scrutiny comes at a critical time as preparations accelerate for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a tournament to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
MetLife Stadium, located in New Jersey, is scheduled to host eight World Cup matches, including the tournament’s highly anticipated final, placing added pressure on organisers to restore confidence in ticketing systems ahead of football’s biggest event.
