Court Reinstates Suspended ZIMURA Board Members

Written by on May 8, 2026

The High Court of Harare has temporarily reinstated three Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (ZIMURA) board members following Government’s dismissal of the board in March.

Board chairperson Alexio Gwenzi, vice chairperson First Batani and treasurer Evelyn Natsai Moyo successfully challenged their removal through an urgent application filed at the High Court in Harare.

In a provisional order, the court ruled that the three may continue carrying out their duties pending finalisation of the case, while Government’s decision to terminate their appointments has been suspended.

Government dissolved the board over alleged governance failures, transparency concerns and reported financial irregularities involving royalty administration.

The case now sets the stage for a legal battle over the governance of Zimbabwe’s music royalties body.
