Government Intensifies Drive for Productive Agricultural Land Use
Written by Staff Reporter on May 8, 2026
The Government says its land repossession policy is aimed at ensuring all allocated agricultural land is fully utilised to enhance productivity, strengthen food security, and support national economic growth.
Speaking during a recent parliamentary question-and-answer session, Agriculture Minister Anxious Masuka said the framework guiding the repossession of underutilised land is clear and aligned with Zimbabwe’s broader development objectives.
Dr Masuka stressed that agricultural land must be actively and productively used, warning that continued underutilisation undermines national food security efforts and limits the sector’s contribution to economic transformation.
He said Government remains committed to promoting efficient land use and ensuring beneficiaries utilise allocated land in ways that maximise agricultural output and support sustainable rural development.
The minister noted that the policy is part of wider efforts to optimise production across the agricultural sector while reinforcing Zimbabwe’s drive toward increased food self-sufficiency and improved livelihoods in farming communities.
Government has in recent years intensified measures to improve accountability and productivity within the agriculture sector as part of broader strategies to modernise farming and strengthen the country’s food systems.
