The Government has commissioned a major water and sanitation infrastructure project in Victoria Falls aimed at improving service delivery and addressing long-standing water shortages affecting thousands of residents.
The project was officially launched by the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Honourable Daniel Garwe, alongside, His Worship, Councillor Prince Thuso Moyo, the Mayor of Victoria Falls.
The US$5 million first phase of the broader US$18 million Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme includes two reservoirs, a 5,000-cubic-metre ground tank and a 750-cubic-metre elevated tank, expected to improve water supply for about 25,000 residents.
Two refuse collection trucks were also commissioned. One was procured by the City of Victoria Falls, while the second was donated through a corporate social responsibility initiative by African Sun Limited.
Minister Garwe said the project reflects improved planning and commitment to sustainable service delivery, adding that it aligns with Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).
He also urged other local authorities to adopt similar partnerships to strengthen urban infrastructure and efficiency.
The project also supports global development goals, including SDG 6 on clean water and SDG 11 on sustainable cities.
