VICTORIA FALLS, ZIMBABWE – In a significant boost to Zimbabwe’s “Open for Business” mantra, a high-powered delegation of 35 leading business executives from Romania arrived at Victoria Falls International Airport.
The delegation, led by the Vice President of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Sorin Vornic, was met with a vibrant reception organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry.
Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Hon. Tongai Mnangagwa, personally led the meet-and-greet, emphasizing that the visit is a direct result of the Second Republic’s aggressive international engagement and marketing strategies.
Speaking to the press shortly after the delegation’s arrival, Hon. Mnangagwa expressed his enthusiasm for the growing European interest in Zimbabwe:
“It’s exciting today here at Victoria Falls, where we’ve got 35 Romanians who came in. It’s a mixed group; some are here for business—looking for opportunities—some are here for holiday. But you’ll find it’s paying [off], what we do as a department, as the Tourism Ministry… people in Europe now are excited to try and find out what is in Zimbabwe.”
While the group is set to experience the “majesty of the iconic Victoria Falls,” the mission extends far beyond sightseeing. The delegation aims to forge strong international trade and investment partnerships, focusing on several key economic sectors.
According to the Deputy Minister, the Romanian executives have expressed specific interest in:
-
Mining: Exploring Zimbabwe’s vast mineral wealth.
-
Agriculture: Seeking partnerships in large-scale farming and agro-processing.
-
Manufacturing: Investigating opportunities for industrial development and value addition.
The Ministry highlighted that such high-profile visits are crucial for turning tourists into “ambassadors” for the country. Hon. Mnangagwa noted that the Ministry is dedicated to providing a “seamless entry and exit” for such groups, ensuring they return home with a positive message about Zimbabwe’s stability and potential.
“It’s a peaceful country, it’s a well-developed country, and you’ll find more and more groups are coming,” Mnangagwa added, crediting the leadership of His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the substantive Minister of Tourism, Hon. Barbara Rwodzi, for steering the tourism sector toward record-breaking engagement.
