Namibia Confirms First Mpox Case, Declares Outbreak

Written by on October 20, 2025

Namibia has confirmed its first mpox case in the coastal town of Swakopmund, leading the Ministry of Health to officially declare an outbreak.

The patient, currently in stable condition, is receiving care in isolation at Swakopmund District Hospital. Health officials believe the infection was contracted during travel within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

In line with global health protocols, even a single confirmed case is classified as an outbreak to enable rapid response and prevent further spread.

Namibian health teams have commenced contact tracing and are closely monitoring those who may have been exposed. The Ministry urges the public to stay alert and seek medical attention promptly if symptoms appear.
