The government has announced an outbreak of both Fall Armyworm and African Armyworm, affecting all ten provinces and 33 districts.
Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development Dr. Anxious Masuka emphasized the urgent need for enhanced control strategies to protect the country’s bumper harvest.
He also warned that drought conditions could lead to grain imports from cheaper suppliers, potentially introducing pests. He stressed the importance of strict monitoring and control measures to safeguard crops and ensure food security.
The African Armyworm, spread by winds, causes severe crop damage during its larval stage.
