The 2025 legal year officially commenced in Bulawayo today with Chief Justice Luke Malaba presiding over proceedings. The ceremony marked the beginning of a new judicial calendar year focused on building public confidence through multi-stakeholder participation.
In his address, Chief Justice Malaba emphasized the judiciary’s commitment to delivering not only “judicial excellence or world-class justice” but also “people-centered justice.”
He outlined plans to reinvigorate and redirect the judiciary and all stakeholders within the justice delivery system to enhance public trust.
In an interview on the sidelines of the event, Lawyer and Politician, Professor Welshman Ncube commended the judiciary’s efforts to maintain public confidence and its commitment to decentralizing the legal system across the country.
Legal Practitioner Nikiwe Tshabalala also echoed these sentiments, stating that the commision’s efforts to decentralise its operations shows their growing trust in the legal sector of the country, while also allowing access to justice for every citizen.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is currently taking part in other initiatives which include introduction of the Intregrated Electronic Case Management System established in all superior courts, with the JSC expected to introduce the same system in magistrates courts.
Among its 2025 plans, the JSC aims to establish Fast Track Courts while also targeting to work closely with traditional chiefs by supporting the customary and local courts through capacitating them with relevant skills to deliver quality justice.
