The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a disturbing surge in rape cases, with five incidents reported in just one week.
According to police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the five cases were reported between December 5 and December 11, 2024, with victims being of ages of 4 to 17.
One of the incidents involved a 17-year-old girl who was raped by three men who had offered to help her in October. In another shocking incident, a 4-year-old girl was raped by a 13-year-old boy, while a 60-year-old man raped a 12-year-old girl and attempted to bribe her into silence.
The ZRP has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. As the police continue to investigate these heinous crimes, the community is advised to come together to prevent sexual violence and support survivors.
